The most successful anti-wrinkle treatments are the ones nobody notices. Here's what separates a frozen face from one that simply looks rested, refreshed and entirely like itself.
There is a particular kind of compliment that every aesthetic practitioner aspires to hear: not 'your Botox looks great', but 'you look so well'. That is the gold standard. The treatment that makes someone look like the best version of themselves, not a different person entirely.
Anti-wrinkle injections, when administered with a truly light touch, soften the muscular contractions responsible for dynamic lines, the creases that form when we frown, squint, or raise our brows in surprise. They do not, and should not, eliminate all movement. Expression is what makes a face human, warm, recognisable.
The problem arises when practitioners over-treat. Too many units in the forehead creates that familiar smooth-but-immobile look. The brows sit too low or too arched. The upper face becomes eerily static while the lower face continues to move naturally. It reads as 'done' immediately.
At Visage Medispa, we work to a philosophy we call 'the Goldilocks principle': not too much, not too little. Our starting doses are always conservative. We review at two weeks and adjust if needed. This approach takes longer to achieve the desired effect in some patients, but it eliminates the risk of the overcorrected, hollow, or frozen aesthetic that has given injectables an undeserved reputation.
The muscles of the face are highly individual. The same dose placed in the same location will produce dramatically different results from one patient to the next. Experience, not just training, is what equips a practitioner to read those differences and respond accordingly.
If you are considering anti-wrinkle treatment for the first time, our advice is simple: find a practitioner who will under-treat you on the first visit. That restraint is not inexperience. It is the mark of someone who truly understands the medicine.
