There is a science to pre-holiday skin prep, and there are treatments that simply do not belong anywhere near a sunbed or a long-haul flight. Here is our considered pre-holiday playbook.
Four weeks before. This is the ideal window to begin a microneedling session or schedule a deeper chemical peel. Both stimulate skin renewal that needs three to four weeks to settle and re-establish a healthy skin barrier before sun exposure. Going on holiday with freshly resurfaced skin is the single fastest way to develop pigmentation that takes months to reverse.
Two to three weeks before. Time for a course of skin boosters or a single Profhilo session to maximise hydration before the dehydrating combination of flights, air conditioning and sun. Skin holds water far more effectively in the weeks following these treatments, so your tan will sit more evenly and your skin will look fresher in every photograph.
One week before. The perfect window for Hydrafacial. It deeply cleanses, decongests and saturates the skin with hydrating serums, with absolutely no downtime. Most clients book theirs three to five days before departure. We see a consistent pattern: those who do this look noticeably better in their holiday photographs than those who skip it.
What to avoid in the final two weeks. No first-time injectables. No lasers that could leave residual redness. No retinoid initiation (start before, or wait until you return). No aggressive peels.
What to take with you. A high-grade mineral SPF 50 (reapplied every two hours), a gentle vitamin C serum, and a hydrating mist for in-flight use. The clients whose skin looks best after holidays are not the ones who treat aggressively beforehand. They are the ones who protect rigorously throughout. Sun is the single fastest ageing factor for the skin, and even a week of unprotected exposure can undo months of clinic work.
